Priest Runes and Their Locations in Season of Discovery

SoD Runes are a way to enhance, or sometimes completely change the way your class plays. In this guide, you will find out about all runes in locations for Priest runes in the Season of Discovery.

There are 12 runes available to the Priest in the first phase of SoD, and 6 more runes in Phase 2. Some of them assist with healing, and some of them with dealing damage. Nevertheless, you might want to obtain all of them regardless of your spec, since the number of them will only increase in the future phases of Season of Discovery. Here is a list of all of them.

Priest Runes from Phase 2 of SoD

During the second phase of the Season of Discovery, Priests can discover six new runes. These runes offer a variety of abilities, including support for healing and damage dealing. Below is the list of runes along with their locations.

Empowered Renew

Empowered Renew makes it so your Renew now heals one extra time immediately when applied, and gains 15% increased benefit each time it heals from your bonus healing effects. In addition, your Renew can now be active on targets affected by another Priest's Renew.

Where to find:

You can find this rune in two places.

Thousand Needles: This rune is dropped by various Grimtotem mobs, including Grimtotem Reaver. A recommended farming location is around coordinates /way 34.4 30.6.

Alterac Mountains: This rune is dropped by Crushridge Ogre mobs, typically located along the eastern edge of the snowy area in the zone. A specific spot to find them is at coordinates /way 52.8 44.6.

Mind Spike

Mind Spike blasts the target for [111 * (9.456667 + 0.635108 * Level + 0.039063 * Level * Level) / 100] to [129 * (9.456667 + 0.635108 * Level + 0.039063 * Level * Level) / 100] Shadowfrost damage, and increases the critical strike chance of your next Mind Blast on the target by 30%, stacking up to 3 times.

Where to find:

  • Travel to Desolace and accept the Highway Robbery quest in Desolace at an Extinguished Campfire at /way 47 54.
  • Travel to /way 63 39 and turn the quest to Bibbly F'utzbuckle. Accept the quest called On the Lam.
  • Travel to the inn in Booty Bay. Turn in your quest in Tokal, and pick up Cherry for Your Thoughts. Buy Cherry Grog. Travel to the next part of your quest: No Honor Among Thieves.
  • Travel to Arathi Highlands and find a Rowboat under the bridge at /53 91 on the Arathi Highlands map. Interact with the boat and you will be teleported to the eastern shore.
  • Locate Illari Duskfeather and engage her in conversation. She will present two equally hostile dialogue options. Upon selecting one, she will initiate combat. Defeat her in battle, retrieve the dropped bag, and loot Illari's Key. Then, use the key to unlock the Jewel-Encrusted Box and obtain the Rune stored within.

Renewed Hope

Renewed Hope makes it so your heals from Flash Heal, Lesser Heal, Heal, Greater Heal, and Penance have 10% increased critical effect chance when cast on targets with Weakened Soul.

Where to find:

  • You will find this rune by collecting Unsettling Vision. To do so, slay Nagas situated along the northwestern shoreline of Desolace, including the Slitherblade Warrior. These enemies typically range from levels 32 to 36.
  • Use Mind Control on Slitherblade Tide Priestess, typically levels 33 to 34, to acquire her Meditation buff.
  • Use the Unsettling Vision to learn Renewed Hope.

Pain Suppression

Pain Suppression instantly reduces all damage taken by a friendly target by 40% and increases resistance to Dispel mechanics by 65% for 8 sec.

Where to find:

To find Pain Suppression you will have to collect 4 Echoes in different locations.

  • Scarlet Monastery (Graveyard Echo): Approximately halfway down the grave area and to the left, situated within a fenced area.
  • Arathi Highlands (Arathi Echo): Go'shek Farm, /way 62 54.
  • Dustwallow Marsh (Theramore Echo): Grave at /way 63.7 42.5.
  • Swamp of Sorrows (Swamp Echo): Can be found at /way 16.8 53.8.
  • Travel back to Scarlet Monastery, specifically to Library wing.
  • Activate the Echos at the correct statues in the following order:
  1. Warrior - Swamp Echo;
  2. Mage - Arathi Echo;
  3. Paladin - Theramore Echo;
  4. Priest - Graveyard Echo.

Dispersion

Dispersion makes you disperse into pure Shadow energy, reducing all damage taken by 90%.  You are unable to attack or cast spells, but you regenerate 6% mana every 1 sec for 6 sec. Dispersion can be cast while stunned, feared or silenced and clears all snare and movement impairing effects when cast, and makes you immune to them while dispersed.

Where to find:

This particular Rune necessitates steps that only other classes can accomplish.

  • You will require a Rogue who has obtained the Master of Subtlety Rune and acquired Jani's Charm. Utilizing Jani's Charm, the Rogue must pickpocket trolls in Stranglethorn Vale. These trolls are commonly found around coordinates /way #1434 33 14, typically Bloodscalp Scavengers. Doing so will grant you a Mysterious Troll Scroll.
  • Now, a Mage is required to use a Comprehension Charm to decipher the Mysterious Troll Scroll, transforming it into a Deciphered Troll Scroll. The deciphered message reads: "When Zul'Kund's fountain runs with the waters of the holy spring, the gods grant their blessing."
  • Retrieve Holy Spring Water from the Holy Spring, located in the southern region of Stranglethorn Vale, around coordinates /way #1434 28.9 62.0. This area is where Lord Sakrasis can spawn and is the starting point for this step if another priest has shared the quest with you.
  • With two active Meditation Buffs, proceed to the Ruins of Zul'Kunda in Stranglethorn Vale, specifically to the area where Gan'zulah spawns, located at coordinates /way #1434 23.6 8.2.
  • Interact with the Holy Spring Water next to the fountain behind Gan'zulah, activating it. Proceed to loot the fountain to acquire the Rune.

Spirit of the Redeemer

Spirit of the Redeemer makes you become the Spirit of Redemption for 10 sec. While in this form, you can cast any healing spell free of cost, but you cannot move, attack, be attacked, or be targeted by any spells or effects. Requires Spirit of Redemption talent to activate, and you will no longer enter Spirit of Redemption upon dying.

Where to find:

After turning in all the runes you will receive a quest called A Service to Dalaran. You will receive a Supply Bag as a reward. The rune is inside.

Priest Runes from Phase 1 of SoD

For those who can’t wait to locate lower-level Priest runes available in the Season of Discovery, it's essential to know their specific locations. Here is the full list of the runes that were added in the first phase of SoD and are relevant to characters of levels 1 to 25.

Serendipity

Serendipity makes it so healing with Flash Heal reduces the cast time of your next Lesser Heal, Heal, Greater Heal, or Prayer of Healing by 20% for 20 sec, stacking up to 3 times.

Where to find:

At level 20 travel to Ratchet and find an NPC called Grizzby. You will need to complete 3 quests for him, which are mostly about gathering various items. Those items are:

  • 16x Shredder Turbocharger: You can get this by using the Shredder Autosalvage Unit on Venture Co. Light Shredder.
  • 20x Dark Iron Ordinance: This item can be found as a drop from Dark Iron Dwarves in Wetlands.
  • 24x Fish Oil: This item can be found as a drop from Murlocs and Naga of level 25 and higher.

After completing these quests the rune will become available for purchase from Grizzby for 5 gold.

Strength of Soul

Strength of Soul makes it so Lesser Heal, Heal, Greater Heal, and Flash Heal reduce the remaining duration of Weakened Soul on targets they heal by 4 sec. In addition, targets of your Power Word: Shield will gain Rage from taking damage despite the damage being absorbed, and Righteous Fury will trigger from damage absorbed by your Power Word: Shield as if it were a heal.

Where to find:

Travel to Ashenvale and kill Thislefur mobs until you get Primal Insight. Then go to 38, 29 and climb the tree there, after which use Primal Insight next to the Dream Catcher. That’s it!

Twisted Faith

Twisted Faith makes Mind Flay and Mind Blast deal 20% increased damage to targets afflicted with your Shadow Word: Pain.

Where to find:

You can get this rune in different ways depending on which race you’ve decided to play as.

  • Dwarf: Travel to the Kobold Cave in Loch Modan (36, 19) and kill Kobolds until you loot an Offering Coin. In the same cave, you should find a well. Throw the coin into the well and get your new rune.
  • Human:  Travel to Gold Coast Quarry in Westfall and kill an enemy called Undying Laborer. This enemy has to be finished with the holy damage for you to receive the rune.
  • Night Elf: Travel to Darkshore and kill Naga until you find Shatterspear Offering. Next, go to the Ruins of Mathystra and jump into the pit there. Use the offering on an underwater statue to receive your rune.
  • Undead: Go to 60, 74 in Silverpine Forest and kill the Wailing Spirit. Rune will drop from it.
  • Troll: Go to Barrens and kill Razormane mobs until you find a Helping Hand. Use Resurrection on someone to open said hand and receive your rune.

Void Plague

Void Plague afflicts the target with a disease that causes (* 39 / 100 * 6) Shadow damage over 18 sec.

Where to find:

You can get this rune in different ways depending on which race you’ve decided to play as.

  • Human: Travel to Elwynn Forest at 41.6, 78.8. Rune will drop from Goldtooth.
  • Night Elf: Travel to Ban’ethil Borrow Den in Teldrassil, the Rune will be located at the very bottom of it.
  • Dwarf: Kill Leper Gnomes in Dun Morogh at around 26, 40 until the rune drops.
  • Troll: Kill Kul Tiras Sailors and Kul Tiras Marines in Durotar until the rune drops.
  • Undead: Kill elite Murlocs in the West of Tirisfal at 25, 48.

Circle of Healing

Circle of Healing heals all of target player's party members within 40 yards of target player for (* 162 / 100) to (* 180 / 100).

Where to find:

Travel to Duskwood and obtain Dark Insight by killing Defias Enchanters and Defias Night Runners. Go to 90, 30 of Darkshire and find a secluded grave there.

Mind Sear

Mind Sear causes an explosion of shadow magic around the enemy target, causing (70 / 100 *) to (78 / 100 *) Shadow damage every 1 sec for 5 sec to all enemies within 10 yards around the target.

Where to find:

Turn in supply shipments. Once you achieve an “Honored” reputation with your faction, you will be able to buy this rune from your faction’s reputation vendor for 4 gold and 50 silver.

Penance

Penance launches a volley of holy light at the target, causing (* 128 / 100) Holy damage to an enemy, or (* 106 / 100) healing to an ally, instantly and every 1 sec for 2 sec.

Where to find:

Complete a starter Priest quest at the starting location for your race to receive this rune. This is a level 2 quest, so it shouldn’t be difficult to find or complete.

Shadow Word: Death

Shadow Word: Death is a word of dark binding that inflicts (* 261 / 100) to (* 305 / 100) Shadow damage to the target. If the target is not killed by Shadow Word: Death, the caster takes damage equal to the damage inflicted upon the target.

Where to find:

You can get this rune in different ways depending on which race you’ve decided to play as.

  • Human: Travel to Westfall and kill Leprithus. After this, go to Loch Modan and kneel near the Serpent Statue at 72, 27. 
  • Dwarf: Travel to Loch Modan and kill Mo'grosh Enforcer. After this, go to Loch Modan and kneel near the Serpent Statue at 72, 27.
  • Night Elf: Travel to Darkshore, find a glowing orb 30, 47, and interact with it.
  • Undead: Find Thule Ravenclaw at 65.6, 24.6 of Silverpine Forest, and loot a scroll on the table around there.
  • Troll: Travel to Barrens at around 55, 36. Cast Dispel Magic on a Desert Mirage there to get the rune.

Homunculi

Homunculi breaks off splinters of your soul to animate 3 miniature copies of yourself that attempt to attack your current target with a mace, sword, and axe, reducing the attack speed, attack power, and armor respectively of any target they hit.

Where to find:

You can get this rune in different ways depending on which race you’ve decided to play as.

Power Word: Barrier

Power Word: Barrier summons a holy barrier to protect all party members at the target location for 10 sec, reducing all damage taken by 25% and preventing damage from delaying spellcasting.

Where to find:

Travel to Redridge Mountains and kill elite Blackrock mobs there until the rune drops for you.

Prayer of Mending

Prayer of Mending places a spell on the target that heals them for (* 93 / 100) the next time they take damage or receive healing. When the healing occurs, Prayer of Mending jumps to a party or raid member within 20 yards. Jumps up to 5 times and lasts 30 sec after each jump. This spell can only be placed on one target at a time.

Where to find:

You can get this rune in different ways depending on which race you’ve decided to play as.

  • Human: Locate Adventurer's Remains at 52, 85 in Elwynn Forest, by heading east from Jerod’s Landing. Right-click on the remains to summon a portal. A second Paladin or Priest needs to click on the portal, which will spawn and kill a friendly ghost NPC. Every member of the group can then loot the ghost and acquire the Prayer of Mending.
  • Dwarf: Discover Adventurer's Remains in Dun Morogh at 43, 50. Right-click on the remains to initiate a portal. Subsequently, a second Paladin or Priest must interact with the portal, leading to the appearance and death of a friendly ghost. Each member of the group can then loot the ghost and obtain the Prayer of Mending.
  • Night Elf: Find Adventurer's Remains at coordinates 34, 36 in Teldrassil. Right-click on the remains to trigger a portal. Subsequently, a second Paladin or Priest must interact with the portal, leading to the appearance and swift demise of a friendly ghost. All members of the group can then loot the ghost and acquire Prayer of Mending.
  • Undead: In the southern region of Durotar, specifically at coordinates (48 | 80), you'll discover Adventurer's Remains. Activate a portal by right-clicking on the remains. Afterward, a second Paladin or Priest must interact with the portal, leading to the appearance and swift demise of a friendly ghost. All members of the group can then loot the ghost and obtain the Prayer of Mending.
  • Troll: Same instructions as the Undead.

Shared Pain

Shared Pain will make it so your Shadow Word: Pain now also afflicts up to 2 additional nearby targets within 15 yards.

You can get this rune in different ways depending on which race you’ve decided to play as.

  • Human: Kill Kobold Miner in Elwynn Forest until the rune drops.
  • Night Elf: Kill Lord Melenas in Teldrassil at 51,50.
  • Dwarf: Kill Captain Beld in Dun Morogh at 78.6, 62.0.
  • Troll: Kill Makasgar and Gazz'uz in Durotar.
  • Undead: Kill Tirisfal Farmers in Tirisfal until the rune drops.
