TWW Skyriding Guide

The War Within expansion brings players countless gameplay updates, making practice thrilling and joyful even for experienced WoW veterans. Skyriding is probably one of the largest new additions, and one of the most intriguing ones. Who can stay indifferent to the diversity of flying mounts, from drakes to flying horses and clouds? We cannot, for sure! In this guide we present you all the details about Skyriding, involving its mechanics, abilities, talents, and multiple customization options. Keep reading to dive in the TWW adventures well prepared and acknowledged — let’s go!

TWW Skyriding vs DF Dragonriding

Coming after Dragonriding, Skyriding improves and perfects the previous mechanics, making them more complex to master and interesting to use. Here we provide you with the main differences summary, explaining the additions.

Skyriding Available Immediately in Khaz Algar

As soon as players set foot in Khaz Algar, they will gain access to the Skyriding system. Unlike in Dragonflight, where players had to work through the initial stages of the expansion to unlock Dragonriding, The War Within will make Skyriding accessible from the very beginning. This immediate availability will allow players to fully immerse themselves in the new zones, exploring every nook and cranny with ease and enjoying the dynamic aerial maneuvers right from the start.

An Evergreen Skyriding Talent Tree

One of the most exciting changes is the transition of the Skyriding Talent Tree to a more evergreen system. In contrast to the more limited, expansion-specific progression seen in Dragonflight, the new Skyriding Talent Tree will offer long-term benefits and persistent progress. This means that the talents players unlock won’t just be tied to the current expansion but will carry over, enhancing their aerial abilities across future content. This shift ensures that every investment in the Skyriding system continues to be valuable, making it a core part of a player’s toolkit moving forward.

Collecting Skyriding Glyphs in Khaz Algar

The Skyriding system will feature Skyriding Glyphs, akin to the Dragonriding Glyphs from Dragonflight. These glyphs will be scattered throughout Khaz Algar, encouraging exploration and discovery as players traverse the new zones. Each glyph collected will contribute to unlocking new abilities and enhancements in the Skyriding Talent Tree. This system not only adds a layer of progression but also motivates players to thoroughly explore the stunning landscapes of Khaz Algar, uncovering hidden secrets and mastering their Skyriding skills.

Skyriding Proficiency: Level Up and Unlock Talents

As players level up in The War Within, they will earn Skyriding Proficiency points. These points can be spent in the Skyriding Talent Tree to unlock new talents and abilities, tailoring the Skyriding experience to fit their playstyle. Whether focusing on increased speed, agility, or combat enhancements, players will have the flexibility to build a Skyriding profile that suits their needs. This progression system ensures that as players grow stronger throughout the expansion, their Skyriding abilities evolve in tandem, making aerial exploration more thrilling and personalized.

Flexible Flight Options: Skyriding or Steady Flight

Recognizing that players have different preferences for aerial travel, The War Within will allow them to switch between Skyriding and Steady Flight (the traditional flying system introduced in The Burning Crusade). This flexibility ensures that those who enjoy the dynamic and fast-paced nature of Skyriding can engage with it, while those who prefer the more relaxed, steady-paced flying can opt for Steady Flight. This choice empowers players to tailor their experience, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the skies of Khaz Algar in their preferred way.

464 Mounts Adapted for Skyriding

In a major expansion of the system, a staggering 464 mounts will be adapted to use Skyriding. This means that players will not be limited to specific Skyriding mounts; instead, they can bring their favorite mounts from previous expansions into the skies of Khaz Algar. Each of these mounts will be retrofitted to handle the unique Skyriding mechanics, allowing for a broader, more personalized selection of mounts to choose from. This inclusivity ensures that every player can find a mount that not only looks great but also performs well within the Skyriding system, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the journey.

Skyriding Mounts

Probably one of the greatest differences from Dragonriding is the variety of mounts that you can ride. While before you could only ride drakes, now the mechanics are available for a vast range of creatures, involving even horses, worms, a. Here is an overview of Skyriding mounts.

Skyriding Drakes

Despite a wide range of mounts for Skyriding, Drakes still differ — they can be widely customized in the Rostrum of Transformation. From horns shape and scales to their face forms and armor color, the possibilities are endless. However, to unlock those changes you must complete certain quests, collect Drakewatcher Manuscripts, etc. However, each feature becomes account-wide after a single unlock.

Other Skyriding Mounts

Besides Drakes, you’ll be able to Skyride 464 other mounts, involving ones that belong to land and water usually. Here is a quick list of a few mounts that will become available for Skyriding.

Jeweled Copper Scarab

Adorned with intricate, sparkling gems, the Jeweled Copper Scarab is a magnificent mount that glimmers in the sunlight as it soars through the skies. Its ornate design and metallic sheen make it a true treasure of Khaz Algar, perfect for those who want to ride in style and command attention.

Gold-Toed Albatross

The Gold-Toed Albatross is a majestic, large-winged bird with brilliant golden talons that gleam as it glides effortlessly through the air. Known for its grace and endurance, this mount offers a smooth and steady flight, ideal for long journeys across the vast landscapes of Azeroth.

Jade Pandaren Kite

This elegant mount is crafted from the finest jade, echoing the traditional craftsmanship of Pandaria. The Jade Pandaren Kite flutters gracefully on the wind, offering a serene and calming flight experience, reminiscent of the tranquil landscapes from which it originates.

Ruby Panther

The Ruby Panther is a sleek and powerful mount, its fur shimmering with a deep red hue like polished gemstones. Agile and swift, this feline mount combines beauty with ferocity, making it a top choice for those who want both elegance and speed in their Skyriding adventures.

Vulpine Familiar

With its bushy tail and cunning eyes, the Vulpine Familiar is a clever and playful mount, known for its agility and quick maneuvers. This fox-like companion is not only loyal but also exudes a mystical aura, making it a favorite among those who seek a touch of magic in their travels.

Skyriding Abilities & Talents

Just like your character’s talent trees, Skyriding comes with its own dedicated progression system. As you level up your Skyriding skill, you’ll unlock new abilities that enhance your aerial mastery.

In the past, Dragonriding's talent tree offered over 20 talents, each requiring Dragon Glyph Embers to unlock. However, in WoW: The War Within, the Skyriding talent tree has been streamlined. Many abilities that once required collecting a large number of Glyphs are now available by default, making the progression more accessible and convenient.

Instead of being used for unlocking new skills, Skyriding Glyphs now serve a different purpose. Collecting them no longer grants new abilities but instead contributes to achievements. By gathering these Glyphs, you can earn the "Khaz Algar Glyph Hunter" achievement, along with a special reward: the Swarmite Skyhunter mount. This achievement, along with many other exciting rewards, is part of The War Within Campaign.

Below, we’ve listed the Skyriding abilities you unlock upon reaching level 10 and gaining access to Skyriding. These abilities utilize Vigor, allowing you to stay airborne for extended periods, making them crucial for mastering the Skyriding mechanic.

Ability

How it works

Skyriding Basics

This fundamental ability automatically engages flight mode when you leap off a cliff. Your mount will extend its wings, and depending on whether you’ve chosen dynamic or steady flight, you’ll either glide gently to the ground or maintain flight position.

Vigor

A passive skill that gradually restores your Vigor. Whenever you're grounded, either mounted or unmounted, 1 Vigor will regenerate every 30 seconds, ensuring you're ready for your next flight.

Lift Off

A straightforward ability that allows your mount to lift off from the ground, launching you into the skies with ease.

Thrill of the Skies

This ability grants you 1 Vigor every 15 seconds while flying at high speeds or when you tilt slightly forward to accelerate, keeping you airborne longer.

Aerial Halt

A handy maneuver that enables you to slow down your flight speed or make a smooth landing by flapping backward.

Winds of the Isles

A passive skill that enhances your ability to detect and harness gale winds, providing you with a speed boost when the winds are in your favor.

Whirling Surge

Propel yourself forward with a powerful spiral, covering a significant distance at increased speed.

Bronze Timelock

A clever and sometimes strategic ability that allows you to mark a specific location in your flight path. With Bronze Rewind, you can return to this marked point, retracing your steps in the sky.

Skyriding Mechanics Explained

As previously mentioned, dynamic flight, a core aspect of Skyriding, comes with its own unique characteristics and nuances. If you're new to Skyriding, it may take some time to fully master. Here are a few key points to keep in mind:

  • You can ride your Skyriding mounts on the ground as usual. To take off and start flying, simply double-tap the spacebar or jump off a cliff.
  • Flying in Skyriding is momentum-based, making it feel more like gliding or hovering—at least initially. As you upgrade your mount, your flying experience will gradually resemble a more conventional flight.
  • Momentum is gained by flying downward at an angle. To build and sustain momentum, try diving quickly and then using that momentum to ascend. Spending an extra Vigor point can also help you climb higher.
  • If you lose all your momentum, your mount will descend and land automatically. Fortunately, landing this way doesn’t cause fall damage.
  • When you land, you'll need to wait for at least one Vigor point to regenerate before taking off again. Vigor replenishes while you're on the ground.

Skyriding Races — What Are They?

If you're looking for a challenge, Skyriding races offer the perfect opportunity to test your skills and compete against other players. To join a race, simply find the NPC known as the Bronze Timekeeper, who will guide you through the registration process.

In these races, you'll need to demonstrate your Skyriding prowess by maintaining high speeds, expertly navigating through sharp twists and turns, and leveraging gale winds to gain an advantage over your rivals. Success in these races requires careful time management, as you'll need to hit checkpoints to extend your allotted time.

Additionally, participating in Skyriding Races while exploring both current and past expansion content can be both enjoyable and rewarding. Completing Skyracing Local Quests offers generous rewards, making it a fun way to level up and profit as you race through the skies.

Skyriding in The War Within expansion brings a new level of excitement and exploration to the world of Azeroth. Whether you're soaring through the skies of Khaz Algar, mastering the nuances of dynamic flight, or racing against others to prove your skills, Skyriding offers a fresh and thrilling way to experience the game.
